Our Mission

Australian Tax Calculator was built with a simple goal: to give every Australian access to clear, accurate, and free tax information — without needing to pay an accountant just to understand their own payslip.

Australia's tax system is genuinely complex. Between progressive tax brackets, the Medicare Levy, LITO, HELP repayments, superannuation, and the ever-changing rules around deductions, it's easy to feel lost. Most online calculators give you a number but don't explain why. We wanted to change that.

Every tool on this site is designed to be transparent — showing you the full breakdown of how your tax is calculated, not just the bottom line. We believe that when people understand their tax, they make better financial decisions.

What We Offer

Our Methodology & Data Sources

All calculations on Australian Tax Calculator are based on publicly available data published by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). We do not use proprietary data, estimates, or third-party modelling. Our sources include:

ATO Tax Rates & Thresholds

Income tax brackets, Medicare Levy thresholds, LITO phase-out rates, and HELP repayment rates are sourced directly from the ATO's published schedules for each financial year.

ATO Small Business Benchmarks

Benchmark ranges for the Business Benchmark Checker are sourced from the ATO's official small business benchmark data, updated annually based on tax return data.

ASFA Retirement Standard

Retirement income targets used in the Retirement Planner are based on the ASFA (Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia) Retirement Standard, updated quarterly.

ATO Occupation Deduction Guides

Deductions listed in the Deduction Finder are based on the ATO's published occupation-specific deduction guides and general work-related expense rules.

All calculations are performed entirely in your browser — no data is sent to any server. We do not collect, store, or share any financial information you enter into our calculators.

Accuracy & Updates

We take accuracy seriously. Every calculator is reviewed and updated at the start of each financial year (1 July) to reflect the latest ATO rates, thresholds, and legislative changes. We also update mid-year when the ATO publishes changes to withholding schedules or benchmark data.

However, tax law is complex and changes frequently. While we make every effort to keep our tools accurate, we cannot guarantee that every calculation will match your actual tax assessment. Individual circumstances — such as investment income, rental properties, business income, private rulings, or amended assessments — can significantly affect your actual tax liability.

Found an Error?

If you believe a calculation is incorrect or a rate is out of date, please let us know. We review all reports and update the tool as quickly as possible.
